The Shadow Glen Golf Experience
The Golf Course - Conceived to meet the high standards of the dedicated golfer while capturing the magnificent beauty of the rolling, wooded terrain, Shadow Glen wraps itself around hills and bluffs as though it has always been here. By enhancing the movement of the land, the architects have sculptured a unique player's course with zoysia fairways, bluegrass roughs and impeccable A1/A4 bent grass greens. The traditional course design will challenge the finest golfer, yet was conceived in the spirit of sportsmanship to reward good shot-making for players of all abilities.
From the back tees, Shadow Glen plays to 7,051 yards, par 72. The course was designed by the unique team of Tom Watson, Tom Weiskopf, and Jay Morrish. The course, designed for the pleasure and enjoyment of golfers at various skill levels, the choice of four teeing areas allows the course to be challenged from varying distances. "Shadow Glen flows gracefully along rocky ridges and through tree-lined valleys...some of the finest golfing ground in the entire Midwest. There's not a single harsh feature at Shadow Glen. (It has) the most varied and interesting set of green-side challenges this side of a classic Donald Ross layout" said Golf Digest in its review in January 1990.
In addition to a beautiful, varied, and demanding course, Shadow Glen offers the best practice facilities in a several-state area. The expansive practice area allows for full shots, chipping and putting. It includes dedicated areas for bunker and wedge practice as well as an immaculate putting green.
While many courses can offer an interesting lay-out and challenging play - none in the region can begin to compare with the spectacular natural charm that encompasses Shadow Glen. Scrupulous attention was paid to integrating the course with the layout of the land, and the result is breathtaking. You are far more likely to see an eagle in the sky than you are to make one on the course. A family of bobcats is a distraction not many would complain about. Deer, wild turkey and quail are frequent visitors as well. The outstanding course design has been nationally recognized, having been named Best New Private Course by Golf Digest in 1990, and included in the Golf Digest "America's Greatest 100" courses in 1995. Shadow Glen has been ranked in the Top 5 Courses in Kansas every year since it opened, it is currently ranked #3. In Golf Digest's March 2000 issue, Hole #13 was chosen as one of America's best 18 holes.
The Clubhouse - To accompany Shadow Glen's world class golf environment, renowned Kansas City architect Howard Nearing of Nearing & Staats was selected to design the club quarters, Creating an atmosphere to enhance each and every visit to the club, the exterior was clad in native stone, each piece carefully selected and shaped by craftsmen. The world-class clubhouse is the sophisticated centerpiece of the club. Stunning design features include an interior stone waterfall, high vaulted and beamed ceilings, skylights and an abundance of windows lining he clubhouse. If offers gorgeous panoramic views of the course, lake and bluffs surrounding the area, a wonderful setting for any function.
